Many producers have finished planting corn and stands are surprisingly decent considering the year. The earliest planted corn is around V-5 stage and due for layby N. There were a few replant calls coming in this week. The heavy rains during the early part of May followed by very cold weather caused some stand issues in a few fields particularly in northern tier counties, including a type of injury related to weather that we don’t normally see a lot of. What a difference a year makes! This time last year we had almost no cotton planted and really only got a good start on May 20th. As of May 14th, this year, my best guess is that we are well over 85% planted state wide with many folks finished. Continue reading
Windy Conditions Preventing Pre Applied Herbicides

Following the previous week’s storms, drier conditions allowed farmers to take to the fields. Corn producers were winding down their planting, while cotton and soybean planting were just getting into full swing. Wheat and pastures continue to flourish from adequate moisture.
