The University of Tennessee Weed Tour will be held next Wednesday, June 22 at the West Tennessee Research & Education Center in Jackson, TN (605 Airways Blvd). For those of you who have not been here before, once you pull in the drive just follow the sings that read “Weed Tour”.

Instead of printing a book, we have posted on-line the weed management research trial map, weather data as well as protocols for the research trials that will be featured at the weed tour.  These can be  download on Ipad,  notebook or other electronic device.  Of course they can be accessed old school by printing.

Registration will start at 8:30 A.M. and the tour will begin at 9:00 A.M. The tour will end about 11:30. will be no lunch served this year but we will have breakfast biscuits available during registration.

In years past when all our Palmer amaranth was PPO-susceptible, many used Verdict or Sharpen tankmixed with glyphosate and MSO as a very successful burndown for horseweed and Palmer amaranth.  That mix still works well on horseweed, but I have gotten reports that Verdict and Sharpen are not burning down all the Palmer amaranth in some fields. We will learn a lot over the next couple of weeks on the extent of the glyphosate and PPO resistant Palmer amaranth.  In an effort to get an early estimate of where we are at, we randomly collected Palmer amaranth from fields in Shelby, Hardeman, Tipton, Madison, Weakley, Obion, Gibson, Carroll, Lake and Dyer counties.  We sent these samples to Dr. Bryan Young at Purdue University to determine if they had the PPO resistant gene. Comment Period on Proposed Dicamba label for Roundup Xtend Crops is Ending

The end of the EPA open comment period for registration of dicamba (specifically the product M1691) on Roundup Xtend cotton and soybean is May 31st.  I just checked and there is well over 4000 comments to date.  I opened a few and many are favorable and there are a good number that are not.  I know we are in the middle of planting but it might be good to let your opinion be heard as well.
