UT Extension and the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Council collaborated with producers across the state during 2021 to host the Top Bean state soybean yield contest. Harvest delays and lower than optimal yields for some contestants reduced the total number of contest entries to 17, but yields were good to excellent for both dryland and irrigated categories. Congratulations to the Top Bean state dryland winners, Mr. Chris Peyton and Scott Mathis of Peyton and Mathis farms, Lauderdale county at 97.17 bu/Acre; and to the Top Bean state irrigated winner, Mr. Edmund Sumara, Lake county at 96.79 bu/Acre. Yield and producer variety information for each region may be found at the links below. County agent awards went to Mr. Bob Shumake, Obion county, for having the first contest entry of the season and the most submitted contests. Mr. Greg Allen (Lake county) and J.C. Dupree (Lauderdale county) each received an agent award for working with a state contest winner. Many thanks and congratulations again to all producers and agents who participated this year.
