It was just brought to my attention that metribuzin is not labeled in Tennessee for pre applications in corn.  It is for most any given state just north of us but not in Tennessee. I over looked this one line in the label I reviewed.

Though metribuzin is not labeled for pre applications in corn, linuron is.  The blog posting with this mistake has been corrected with linuron substiuting for metribuzin. There have been a number of calls from folks who are tentatively planning to double crop soybean behind their corn crop this year. Several farmers did this last year and were able to plant soybeans in July after the corn was harvested.  In several cases the double crop soybeans made in the 30 bushel range. The question I get from these folks is what herbicides can they use in corn and come back with soybeans in July? As I mentioned in a previous article Finesse is a good option to take out volunteer Roundup Ready corn before wheat planting.  Moreover, many will likely want to use Finesse pre in wheat for ryegrass control. Indeed Finesse is a good option for these type of weed control situations.  However, please keep in mind that only STS soybeans can be planted double crop in 2013 after a Finesse application this fall.  Accessing a STS soybean variety could be more of a challenge in 2013 for a couple reasons.  Continue reading
