JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host the annual Weed Tour June 17 at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. The guided tour will feature 40 weed management research tests in cotton, corn and soybean.

Weed Tour runs from 9 – 11:30 a.m., with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served.

Larry Steckel, UT Extension weed specialist, will lead the tour, along with graduate students Hayden Love, Sally Reed and Gavin Sparks.

Most of the research featured in the 2026 Weed Tour involves management of herbicide-resistant grass species and multiple herbicide-resistant Palmer amaranth. Management of these weeds in Xtend and Enlist weed control systems will also be highlighted.

The tour will also highlight research trials on the new herbicide resistant trait crops Axant cotton and Vyconic soybean. The implications of being able to incorporate HPPD-inhibiting herbicides into weed management in those crops will be on display.  Also, with the future availability of paraquat in question, a study examining potential substitutions will be shown and discussed.

The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located at 605 Airways Boulevard, Jackson, Tennessee. Upon arrival, follow signs to the weed management research plots. For directions or more information, call 731-425-4705.
