Command 24C for Fall Applied Ryegrass Control in Tennessee was Approved

In a previous blog, we referred to recent research that showed fall-applied grass residual herbicides providing good ryegrass control well into the spring.  In particular, that research showed that Command, Boundary and the pyroxasulfone based herbicides (Anthem Flex, Zidua) provided the best ryegrass control.

At the time that blog was posted, Command was not labeled for that use pattern in Tennessee. That just changed with the recent approval of a Command 24C label for fall-applied applications to help us control grasses.

The rate range to use on our medium textured soils is 16 to 24 ozs/A. For our fields with heavier infestations of ryegrass use 24 oz/A. Refer to the label for more detail on rates. The timing to apply Command in this new use pattern is October 1 to November 30. Cotton, corn and soybean can all be planted in the spring after a Command fall application.

Boundary also has a 24C for this use pattern and was approved last year.  The Boundary rate is 32 ozs/A .  The application window is from September 1 through November 30. Boundary can be applied in the fall before corn and soybeans planted the next spring.

Zidua and Anthem Flex did not need a 24C for fall application as it is on page 9 on their original labels. For these herbicides and the others mentioned above please refer to the labels for more specifics.
