Zidua (pyroxasulfone) applied via impregnated fertilizer in cotton has become popular in Tennessee. My understanding is that about 25% of the cotton acres last year had Zidua applied in this fashion. With the increasingly poor Palmer amaranth and grass control we are experiencing with dicamba + glyphosate, overlaying residual herbicides must be the foundation for weed control.
There is a new supplemental label for Zidua that widens the application window in cotton. It reads: The use of Zidua SC impregnated on dry fertilizer on cotton 2 lf stage or later at the rate of 250# of fertilizer/Ac at a rate of 2.5 – 3.5 oz/Ac. Please refer to the supplemental Zidua label found here for directions.
Anthem Flex (pyroxasulfone + fluthiacet) recently received a supplemental label that allows for it to be applied via fertilizer in cotton. As such, there is another option to apply a pyroxasulfone based herbicide in this manner. There are some differences between the application window, rates, etc. between the new supplemental Zidua and Anthem Flex labels so be sure to refer to the specific label for that information. The supplemental label for Anthem Flex can be accessed here.
