Even though wheat is still dormant, you don’t have to be when it comes to learning about Fusarium Head Blight (FHB)/head scab of wheat and barley. On March 15, 2022 there is a free 2-hour webinar (called “Scabinar”) starting at 10:00 am CST.

The U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative is sponsoring the Scabinar to provide important information about FHB. More information on the Scabinar and registration is available at: https://scabusa.org/scabinar.Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs) that attend the live event.  Registration is necessary to be able to attend the live event.

The first hour will focus on the biology and disease cycle of Fusarium graminearum. There will a presentation followed by a panel of experts that represent different small grain classes and different geographies.  The second hour will focus on management of FHB and will have the same format as the first hour (presentation followed by a panel).

Scab-related losses to farmers, food processors and brewers run in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Losses to farmers take the form of lower yields, quality, and price. The presence of deoxynivalenol (DON), a mycotoxin associated with scab, results in additional losses for growers, processors, and end users. Attend this free 2-hour webinar to learn more about this disease and how you can manage it.
