2014_midsoutdefolguideCooler temperatures have arrived in West TN.  Luckily, much of our cotton crop has made up a tremendous amount of lost ground over the past month and several fields will have received their first shot of defoliant by the end of next week.  With this less-than-desirable forecast and generally late crop, I would again encourage you to know your crop, know your environment/forecast, and use this information to guide your product selection and timing. This approach is outlined in detail in our 2014 Mid-South Cotton Defoliation Guide which Dr. Darrin Dodds at Mississippi State University just updated.   Please keep in mind that this was compiled as a regional guide and should be used in conjunction with your previous experiences.

We will be spraying a few early defoliation trials on the station Monday and as soon as these strips start showing some differences I’ll pass this information along.  Additionally, I’m currently penciling out locations for several county strip trials which will be defoliated in the coming weeks.  Check back in the next week for trial coordinates and treatment descriptions.
