Late Planting ends Soon for Corn

Corn planting has wrapped up for most folks across the state.  Late planted corn did well in an unusually wet year such as 2013, but is very risky in most years unless irrigation can be provided.  Bottom line: if nitrogen and/or herbicides aren’t locking you into corn in a replant situation, consider another option such as milo or soybean.  Partial coverage crop insurance is available on corn only through June 5th in west TN counties and through June 10th in Henry, Benton, Decatur, Hardin and all other counties eastward across the state.  Rains have been scattered, but some areas may not dry out in time to catch the late plant insurance cutoff.
