The newest find of soybean rust is from Cannon County. Soybean rust pustules were present on 8 of 50 leaves, with an overall severity of less than 1%. To date soybean rust has been confirmed in Giles, Shelby, Madison, and Cannon Counties in Tennessee.
All the reports of soybean rust in Tennessee have had low incidences (number of leaves from the total sample with rust, i.e. 8 out of 50 leaves) and low severities (leaf area with symptoms, all have been <3% across the entire samples). All the fields have been at reproductive growth stage R6, past the point of benefiting from a fungicide application, as are most all soybeans in Tennessee.
While sentinel soybean leaves will continue to be examined from across Tennessee for soybean rust, it is likely soybean rust is in other counties at very low levels since it has been found in 2 counties in Kentucky. Any positive observation will be reported here on news.utcrops.com, the sbrusa.net website, and the UT Rust Hot Line (1-877-875-2326).
