Soybean Rust Update

Author:  Comments Off on Soybean Rust Update

Soybean rust was found today in Madison County in a soybean research trial at the West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson.  Only 3 leaves of 50 that were examined contained 3 to 6 sporulating pustules (on each leaf), indicating very low severity and that spores were likely deposited in the area 2 to 3 weeks previously.

The soybean research plot is at reproductive growth stage R6 and about a week away from R7. Sentinel soybean leaves will continue to be examined from across Tennessee for soybean rust.  Any positive observation will be reported here on news.utcrops.com, the sbrusa.net website, and the UT Rust Hot Line (1-877-875-2326).

Most soybeans are past the growth stage of applying a fungicide. Feel free to contact your local county agent or myself if you have any questions about your specific situation and fungicide options.
