Cotton Planting Forecast

Cotton Planting Forecast 5/6 to 5/10:  For the first time we may have a window to plant cotton!  The number of DD60s varies from good accumulation to get a stand to marginal depending upon the location.  Right now they are predicting the next chance of rain (40%) for next weekend (5/11 – 5/12).  Lets think positiviely and hope that 40% will not show now but rematerialize in late July. In the mean time, once the field is dry enough to plant it looks like we have a window. The forecast of course could be more promising particularly for Middle Tennessee but this is the spring of 2013 and very little seed regardless of crop has been planted in ideal conditions.

North West Tenn. (Dyersburg): Predicted DD60 accumulation over the next 5 days: 29 (Good). Temperatures will range from the low 70s to high 50s over the next 5 days.

Central West Tenn. (Jackson): Predicted DD60 accumulation over the next 5 days: 25 (Marginal). Temperatures will range from the mid 70s to low 50s over the next 5 days.

South West Tennessee (Memphis): Predicted DD60 accumulation over the next 5 days: 35 (Good). Temperatures will range from the high 70s to mid 50s over the next 5 days.

Middle Tennessee (Fayetteville): Predicted DD60 accumulation over the next 5 days: 18 (Marginal). Temperatures will range from the high 70s to high 40s over the next 5 days.
