WHEAT HARVEST FINALLY BEGAN
Farmers took advantage of good weather conditions across the state last week and finally began to harvest the wheat crop. Even with 11 percent of the wheat crop being harvested this past week, harvest is still about two weeks behind the five year average. Farmers were also busy switching over from corn to soybeans in fields that had been flooded and needed to be replanted. Continue reading
Prices have been updated after the June 12th USDA Supply & Demand report. The midpoint of USDA’s price projections are $4.80 bushel corn, $0.83 pound cotton ($0.91 with seed rebate, etc.), $4.40 bushel grain sorghum, $10.75 bushel soybeans, and $6.90 bushel wheat. Continue reading

FIELD WORK DELAYS RETURN
Farmers maximized their time in the fields this past week, with only about 3.5 days suitable for field work. Continued wet conditions led to flooding in some low lying areas last week. The wheat crop continued to be rated in mostly good-to-excellent condition, but the high winds from this past week’s storms caused some lodging. Wheat harvest hasn’t started yet. Continue reading

CORN PLANTING FINALLY ABOUT WRAPPED-UP
With corn planting about completed, growers shifted their focus last week to other farm activities such as soybean and cotton planting, hay harvest, and tobacco transplanting. The 6 days suitable for field work this past week allowed growers to make tremendous progress in all endeavors. Continue reading

WINTER WHEAT CROP PROGRESSING NICELY
Early last week was marked by scattered showers across the state, which hampered progress in the fields; however, farmers were able to rebound nicely with sunny conditions later in the week. Many farmers across the state finished planting and replanting corn, while others applied side dressing applications where conditions would allow. Continue reading
