 COTTON CROP DEVELOPMENT OVER TWO WEEKS BEHIND NORMAL

The cotton crop, at week’s end, remained rated in mostly good-to-excellent condition, despite development being over two weeks behind schedule. Cotton’s slow development this season can be mostly attributed to cool, wet, weather conditions. All other major crops remained in mostly good-to-excellent condition. Pastures are in good-to-excellent condition, with rapid growth reported. Continue reading

 CROPS STILL IN MOSTLY GOOD CONDITION

Scattered showers were the norm last week. These damp conditions led to some negative effects on tobacco, tomatoes and melons. Tobacco and cotton were rated mostly in fair-to-good condition. Corn and soybeans were rated in good-to-excellent condition. Continue reading

 LATEST WHEAT HARVEST IN SIXTEEN YEARS FINALLY FINISHED

This past week farmers finished the wheat harvest. This season marks the latest wheat harvest since 1997, which tied this date with 98 percent harvested. Soybean planting was also wrapped up this past week, but soybean progress is about 2 weeks behind the 5 year average. Continue reading
