The joint Kentucky-Tennessee Grain Conference will be held on February 8, 2013 at the Logan County Extension Office, 255 John Paul Avenue, Russellville, KY. The program begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:00 AM. Program
The Tennessee Grain & Soybean Producers Conference is scheduled for Thursday, February 7 at the Dyer County Fairgrounds, James Rice Road, in Dyersburg (GPS coordinates: N 36.066730, W 089.365147). HARVEST WINDING DOWN… SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY THANKSGIVING
Soybean and cotton harvest are coming to an end and should be finishing up within the next couple weeks. Wheat planting is approaching completion, with less than 15 percent of the crop left to be seeded. Over 80 percent of the wheat was rated in good-to-excellent condition, as over half has emerged. Some farmers have started feeding hay. They also saw a brief break in the recent cold temperatures as the weekend brought warmer days. Continue reading
The kudzu bug is now well established in parts of east central Tennessee. Specimens have been made in Bledsoe, Bradley, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea, Sequatchie, Monroe, Loudon, Blount, Roane and Knox Counties. A few soybean fields in this part of the state were treated for this pest.
