A defoliation strip trial was applied in Flintville, TN (Lincoln County) this afternoon (September 16th).   A treatment list can be found by clicking here.  There are three untreated rows on both sides of the trial.  Each treatment is 5 rows wide and signs have been placed in the center of each treatment (row 3).

In order to view the field, navigate to 3060 Winchester Hwy, Flintville, TN 37335. Turn onto the gravel road on the north side of the highway and the plot will be on your right roughly 120′ from the gravel road.  You can see the yellow flags marking the corners and the treatment signs from Hwy 64.

A standard rate 24 oz of boll opener was used on all treatments.  Boll opener varied between 24 oz Ethephon, 24 oz of Finish OR 12 oz Ethephon + 12 oz Finish.  Very little boll opening was required.

Defoliants varied between Dropp, Folex and Ginstar in several combinations and rates.  The majority of the leaf material that remained was high in the plant (there were very few mature leaves at the base of the plant).

Special thanks to Mr. Jared Bradley for allowing us to set the strip trial out on his farm and Mr. David Qualls, Lincoln County Extension Agent, for organizing and assisting in the application.
